Garden Party 2026
The Garden Party is the Alamo Mission Chapter's annual year-end celebration, marking the close of the chapter's program year. This special evening brings members and guests together to celebrate accomplishments, recognize outstanding service, and reflect on another year of preserving Texas history.
Held this year in the beautifully renovated Ralston Hall, part of the Texas Cavaliers Education Center (formerly Alamo Hall), the evening featured the presentation of the inaugural Amanda Fenley Webb & James E. Webb, Jr. Memorial Grant, establishing what will become an annual grant program awarding up to $50,000 in support of Texas history preservation, education, research, and the arts. The inaugural grant was shared equally between The Texas Center and the Remember the Alamo Foundation, helping advance their important work in preserving Texas history and educating future generations.
The chapter also honored George Harcourt with the Texas Patriot Award and Claire McKay-Hart with the Distinguished Member Award. Guests enjoyed an exceptional dinner by Don Strange of Texas before celebrating another successful year of service, preservation, and fellowship.
Old Spanish Trail Bench Restoration & Rededication 2026
On May 6, 2026, the Alamo Mission Chapter proudly rededicated the Old Spanish Trail Bench, celebrating the restoration of a cherished landmark first dedicated on May 6, 1936, during the Texas Centennial.
The bench honors the historic Old Spanish Trail, a vital route that connected communities across the South and served generations of explorers, missionaries, traders, settlers, and travelers. Stones from the original 1936 bench, once located at the intersection of Vance Jackson Road and Fredericksburg Road, were carefully preserved and incorporated into the new monument.
After years of damage from multiple vehicle accidents, the original bench could no longer be preserved. Through the dedication of chapter members and preservation partners, a new bench was created using the original stones and installed along the Old Spanish Trail Walking Trail on Fredericksburg Road.
With the bench restored and rededicated, it once again serves as a reminder of the Old Spanish Trail's importance in the development of early Texas.
108th Pilgrimmage to the Alamo 2026
On April 20, 2026, the Alamo Mission Chapter proudly hosted the 108th Pilgrimage to the Alamo, continuing one of San Antonio's longest-standing commemorative traditions. Despite heavy rain throughout the morning, military personnel, community organizations, and individual participants gathered to honor the defenders of the Alamo, proving that even the weather could not diminish the spirit of this cherished event.
Established in 1918, the Pilgrimage to the Alamo began as a tribute to those who gave their lives during the Battle of the Alamo. Each year, the procession begins at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial near the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts and proceeds to the Alamo, where participants gather for a solemn wreath-laying ceremony in remembrance of the fallen.
Year after year, the Pilgrimage serves as a powerful reminder that the story of the Alamo is not only remembered but honored through a tradition that continues to unite our community.
Alamo Heroes Day
March 6, 2026
On March 6, 2026, the Alamo Mission Chapter hosted its annual Alamo Heroes Day ceremony in front of the Alamo, honoring the courage and sacrifice of those who defended the mission in 1836.
This year's ceremony featured keynote speaker Brigadier General Randy P. Oakland, Commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio. A highlight of the program was the presentation of flags by the Central Catholic High School JROTC, representing the countries and states of origin of the Alamo defenders and honoring the diverse backgrounds of those who stood together in defense of the Alamo.
Alamo Heroes Day continues the chapter's tradition of honoring the defenders of the Alamo, ensuring their courage, sacrifice, and legacy are remembered by each new generation.
Texas Independence Day March 2, 2026
On March 2, 2026, the Alamo Mission Chapter celebrated Texas Independence Day at the Alamo Pavilion, commemorating the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence and honoring the courage and vision of those who established the Republic of Texas.
This year's program featured students from Bradley Middle School, home to the award-winning Mill Springs Cabin, an interactive Texas history learning facility that includes a restored log cabin, an 1800s general store, and a frontier schoolhouse. Through immersive, hands-on learning, the program inspires students to explore and appreciate Texas' rich heritage. The students' performances reflected the chapter's shared commitment to educating and inspiring future generations.
A cherished tradition of the ceremony was the reading of the names of the 59 signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence, honoring the individuals whose vision and determination led to the birth of the Republic of Texas. Their names continue to be remembered each year as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Texas independence.
For The Love of Texas Fundraiser Luncheon 2026
On February 12, 2026, the Alamo Mission Chapter hosted its annual For the Love of Texas Luncheon at the historic Elizabeth Huth Coates Chapel on the UTSA Southwest Campus. Members, guests, and supporters gathered for an afternoon of fellowship in support of the chapter's educational and preservation initiatives. The luncheon, catered by Don Strange of Texas, provided a memorable setting for one of the chapter's signature fundraising events.
This year's luncheon featured guest speaker Brandon Seale, historian, author, and creator of the popular podcast A New History of Old Texas, who shared his passion for the people and stories that shaped our state. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction, offering the opportunity to support the chapter's mission while bidding on a variety of unique items and experiences.
Thanks to the generosity of our members, sponsors, and guests, proceeds from the luncheon help support scholarships, student competitions, historic preservation projects, and educational initiatives throughout the year.
Siege of Bexar
Luncheon 2025
On December 9, 2025, the Alamo Mission Chapter hosted its annual Siege of Béxar Luncheon at the San Antonio Country Club, commemorating the anniversary of the Siege of Béxar. Concluding on December 9, 1835, the Texian victory secured San Antonio de Béxar and marked a pivotal turning point in the Texas Revolution.
This year's luncheon featured guest speaker Paula Allen, historian, author, and former CEO of the San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation. Drawing upon her extensive knowledge of Texas history and the region's diverse cultural heritage, she offered guests a deeper understanding of the people, places, and events that shaped early Texas. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction featuring unique items generously donated by members and supporters, with proceeds benefiting the chapter's educational and preservation programs.
The luncheon continues the chapter's tradition of commemorating the Siege of Béxar and encouraging a greater appreciation for this important chapter in the story of Texas.
