Annual Outstanding Texas History Teacher Contest
Inspiring Excellence in Texas History Education
The Alamo Mission Chapter proudly sponsors the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Annual Texas History Teacher Contest, recognizing 4th and 7th grade Texas history teachers who inspire their students through meaningful classroom experiences.
The Texas History Teacher Contest recognizes educators who stimulate students' interest in the Republic of Texas through creative teaching ideas, techniques, and hands-on learning experiences.
Competition & Judging
The Teacher Awards are conducted in three stages, giving teachers opportunities for recognition at the chapter, district, and state levels.
Alamo Mission Chapter Competition

A winner is selected by the Education committee and receives recognition from the chapter.

Chapter winners advance to the District level.
District Competition
-
Chapter winners compete within their DRT District.
-
The District Representative and committee select a District winner to represent the District at the state level.
State Competition
-
The Historic Education Committee, with the guidance of the Historian General, selects the Outstanding 4th & 7th Grade Texas History Teachers of the Year from the District winners.
State Awards
-
Receive a $750 award and plaque
-
Are invited, along with one guest, to attend the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Awards Luncheon at the DRT Convention
-
Are invited to share their teaching ideas and techniques at the luncheon
-
Their school receives a monetary award to support projects that encourage the study of Texas history
Contest Requirements
Cover Page
The cover page should include:

Teacher's name and grade taught

School name, address, and city

Principal's name

Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Sponsoring chapter: Alamo Mission Chapter, San Antonio

Letters of Recommendation
Up to four letters of recommendation may be submitted.
Curriculum Vitae / Resume
The applicant should submit a curriculum vitae or resume.
Teaching Statement
The applicant should share his or her thoughts about:

Teaching

Texas history
-
Manner of instruction in the classroom
-
Innovations conceived and executed for fourth- or seventh-grade students
-
Response of the students
The statement should be typed on 8½ × 11-inch paper using 12- to 14-point type.
